LACQUERED FOUR-CASE INRO

Decorated in high relief lacquer with different shades of gold in the Takamakie manner; A technique in which powders are sprinkled over lacquer which has been mixed with a thickening agent, such as clay or charcoal, to create a raised surface. One side, mountainous landscape with flowing river at the bottom and five houses. The roofs of three houses and a terrace of a third one is inlaid with partly gilt mother-of-pearl. On the other side, five houses in same landscape; Two houses and a bridge inlaid with mother-of-pearl enhance with gold. Finely decorated on both ends. The top is a continuation of the scene, depicting clouds formation in the high mountains. One minor touch-up, very fine overall condition.
